Oradell Firefighters Kick Off Training With Jeopardy-Style Quiz ORADELL, N. J. -- For their first training session of the year on Monday, Oradell firefighters mixed it up a little bit by playing a Jeopardy-style quiz game to test firefighting knowledge.Using online training resources, firefighters put together questions on a game board similar to what's used on the popular TV show "Jeopardy." They broke into three teams, and like the show, points were added or taken away depending on the answer. They even played Daily Double and Final Jeopardy. Fruit Sale Supports Ridgewood High School Band Program RIDGEWOOD, N.J. -- Ridgewood High School band members are planning to go to every door in town this Sunday during the annual Blitz Day to sell fruit to support the band program.Though the big push is Jan. 10, fruit orders can be taken through Jan. 29. On sale are California navel oranges, red grapefruit and a citrus sample, which is a combination of both. A mixed box of apples and pears also is available. Trumbull School Board Trims Proposed Budget Below $100M TRUMBULL, CONN. -- A majority of the Trumbull Board of Education members voted to whittle down the proposed 2016-17 budget to keep the increase in spending from the prior year at 2.79 percent, according to the Trumbull Times. Cuts made Tuesday night bring the proposed budget increase down from 3.18 percent, the Times said. Ramsey Officials Agree To Paying $25K In Pool Renovation Settlement Dispute RAMSEY, N.J. -- Ramsey officials recently agreed to pay pool construction contractors $25,000 as a settlement over the borough's refusal to pay $40,500 because of construction delays in the 2014 renovation of the municipal pool, according to NorthJersey.com.The payment is meant to settle what could have turned into a legal dispute after officials with Stoneridge, a Pennsylvania swimming pool contractor, filed a lawsuit to recover the $40,500, said NorthJersey.com. Ridgewood May Benefit From Proposal To Assess Nonprofit Hospitals A state proposal to assess nonprofit hospitals for local services could bring in an additional $2.7 million to towns in Passaic and Bergen counties, but many local officials say it doesn't go far enough, according to NorthJersey.com. State legislators are negotiating a bill that would essentially charge a $2.50 daily bed tax to the state's 60 nonprofit hospitals, with most of the money going to towns, but some to the counties.
