Lakeland Partners With Alliance For Safe Kids To Stop Distracted Driving SHRUB OAK, N.Y. -- School buses in Yorktown now carry messages that take aim at stop distracted driving.Decals that say, "STOP TXTING U R DRIVING," have been placed on the back of 125 school buses in the Lakeland Central School District.  The initiative is via a partnership between the district and the Alliance for Safe Kids (ASK). The community climbed aboard the idea instantly. Within 24 hours from the start of a Facebook fundraiser, money poured in to pay for the decals. The effort grew out of these grim statistics. They joined others from New York's Westchester-Putnam Council for the 24th annual event at Croton Point Park, Croton-on-Hudson.  Other events included a triangle walk, rock climbing and archery. The seven-year-old, a spayed female, is the owner's "best friend" and the pair have hardly been separated in six years, she said. Bambi is a shy dog and likely to run away if she feels intimidated. Waldwick's Finest Join Breast Cancer Fight With 'Pink Hat Campaign' WALDWICK, N.J. -- Waldwick police officers are wearing pink hats while on patrol to raise awareness for breast cancer research.  Supporter hats for this "Pink Hat Campaign" are available at the Waldwick Police Department for $25 throughout October. Hat sale proceeds will go to the “Octoberwomen Foundation," a group that supports research and provides assistance to patients battling breast cancer at Columbia University Medical Center.
