County Government Employees' Union Overwhelmingly Votes Down Contract
WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Members of the Civil Service Employees Association rejected County Executive Rob Astorino's eight-year plan, according to a lohud.com report. The vote was 2,028 to 172 opposing the contract, CSEA Unit 2200 President Kwabena Manu told lohud.com In the proposal, wages over eight years would increase by 8.5 percent, and members of the union would pay a portion of their health insurance premiums, reported the newspaper. RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Officials in the Ramapo Central school district could decide next month whether to seek permission from the state to change the district’s name to Suffern Central, making it distinct from East Ramapo, lohud.com reported.Tuesday's school board hearing drew people for and against the idea, said lohud.com. LAGRANGEVILLE, N.Y. -- Installing solar panels at Arlington Central School District's elementary schools could save money and "reduce the carbon footprint," according to school officials, the Poughkeepsie Journal reported.Still, there is concern among parents whether the solar project idea is safe, said the newspaper. Police Seek Suspect Who Fired Gun During Norwalk Robbery
NORWALK, Conn. -- Police in Norwalk are looking for the armed robber of a West Avenue convenience store, according to News 12 Connecticut. Police told News 12 that the suspect went into J&M Variety at around 8 p.m. Tuesday. Man Charged In Girlfriend's Death Fails To Show Up For Manslaughter Trial
STAMFORD, Conn. -- A Stamford man charged with strangling his girlfriend in a car on I-95 in Fairfield failed to show up Tuesday in court for the start of his manslaughter trial, according to the Connecticut Post. DANBURY, Conn. -- European clothing retailer Primark discovered that payment card "skimmers" had been illegally placed on a number of card payment machines in six of its U.S. retail stores, including at the Danbury Fair mall. “Skimmers” are devices that criminals use to steal payment card data.
