New Judge Appointed In Spring Valley SPRING VALLEY, N.Y. -- Jacques Michel has been appointed by Spring Valley Mayor Demeza Delhomme as a replacement for Alan Simon, who was ousted from his judgeship position due to charges of misconduct, according to lohud.com.The 76-year-old Michel is the new village Justice Court judge, said thelohud.com report. Farm Fest Takes Stage At Crompond School YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- Farmers recently brought their bounties to Crompond School where third- and fourth-graders got to pour through vegetables, taste smoothies and debut a "pollination garden." The second annual Farm Fest in October is part of the school's Farm-to-School Month starring the school’s ever-growing garden. Piermont Gives Nod To Industrial Legacy This Weekend PIERMONT, N.Y. -- A flywheel from the old paper mill that closed more than 30 years ago remains a stalwart reminder of Piermont's industrial past.In fact, its namesake park, which has the piece of machinery, will play host to a celebration Sunday. At one time, over 1,300 people worked at the paper mill. At noon, there will be an unveiling of a memorial plaque honoring those workers. Second Suspect Arrested In Norwalk Gold Rush Pawn Shop Robbery NORWALK, Conn. -- A second arrest has been made in connection with the Sept. 9 armed robbery of a Norwalk pawn shop, Norwalk Police said. U.S. Marshals in Florida arrested Antonio Barreto Tuesday on an active warrant held by the Norwalk Police Department, police said. NJ Gas Tax Increase Takes Effect After Rocklanders Get One Last Cheap Tank RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Tuesday at 12:01 a.m. signaled the end of cheaper gas in New Jersey for New Yorkers living near the border. The tax went up from 14.5 cents per gallon to 37.5 cents, the first increase in 20 years.
