Pearl River Cheerleaders Win State Championship PEARL RIVER, N.Y. -- Pearl River High School students and staff are celebrating a victory for their cheerleaders, who recently won the New York State Public High School championships, according to News 12. The Syracuse competition, featuring squads from throughout the state, was a first for New York since previously state athletic officials haven't recognized cheerleading as a sport, reports News 12. Tappan Man Facing DWI Charges After Passing Out In Car ORANGEBURG, N. Y. -- A 30-year-old Tappan man is facing drug and driving while inmpaired charges after Orangetown police responded to a call Saturday, March 12, about an unconscious man in a car at the corner of Orangeburg Road and Western Highway, police said. Matthew R. Tracy is charged with driving while impaired with drugs, unlicensed operation, and criminal possession of drugs and a hypodermic needle -- all misdemeanors. Stony Point Police Charge Woman With Having Stolen Car STONY POINT, N.Y. -- A 19-year-old Tomkins Cove woman is facing charges after Stony Point police determined the car she was driving was stolen, police said.Rosemary McCoy, of Thunder Mountain Road, is charged with petty larceny, third-degree criminal possession of stolen property and fifth-degree unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, police said. She is due back in court at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 7, police said. A police investigation showed she took the car from a home on Spring Street in Stony Point, police said.

Orangetown Police Investigate Damage To Patrol Car ORANGEBURG, N.Y. -- Orangetown police are seeking the public's help in finding those responsible for damaging a police car while officers were handling a call Saturday at the Nyack Plaza parking lot, police said. Police said while they were trying to help a violent juvenile Saturday afternoon, a group of about 15 people surrounded the marked police car. One of the car's tires were punctured, police said. New Jersey Man Faces Assault Charges After Pearl River Altercation PEARL RIVER, N. Y. -- A 43-year-old Teaneck, N.J., man is facing assault charges after Orangetown police said he punched a woman in the face during a recent argument.Steven N. Markowitz is charged with third-degree assault, a misdemeanor. He was arrested Saturday, police said, and due back in Orangetown court at 9:30 a.m. Monday, April 11. The woman was treated for injuries to her face, police said. An argument between the two escalated and led to the altercation, police said.

Funeral Tuesday For Poughkeepsie HS Student Shot To Death POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- As they prepare for the funeral of Caval Haylett, a promising senior varsity basketball player shot to death last week, Poughkeepsie High School officials say they plan to establish a college scholarship fund in his name, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal. Yonkers Police Investigate Reports Of Gunfire Near Cottage Place YONKERS, N. Y. -- Yonkers police recovered several bullet casings from the playground area at the Cottage Place Gardens Apartments after residents reported hearing gunfire Saturday night, according to News 12 Westchester. 'Brain Breaks' At Woodglen School Teach Value Of Exercise NEW CITY, N.Y. -- Students and teachers at Woodglen Elementary School in New City got a recent lesson in the role of physical activity in everybody's well-being.On March 4, students and teachers conducted an experiment to take "brain breaks" of physical activity during the day. Frozen Pizza, Lasagna Recalled After Glass Pieces Are Found Nestle is issuing a nationwide recall of 267,024 pounds of frozen DiGiorno chicken pizza and Stouffer's chicken lasagna products following complaints from consumers that the food contained little pieces of glass, the U. Vandals Strike Bridgeport Catholic Church, School BRIDGEPORT, CONN. -- Students at St. Andrew Academy in Bridgeport were upset Friday to see satanic graffiti painted on buildings, according to the Connecticut Post.The numbers "666" were written in red paint on the Anton Street church and school, along with other grafitti, according to the Connecticut Post.
