Playland Ice Arena Abuzz As Area Hockey Powers Meet In Thriller RYE, N.Y. - The Playland Ice Arena was buzzing with excitement Wednesday night, as the Suffern and Rye High School ice hockey teams, two of the best in the Hudson Valley, got together to mix it up. In the end, it was the Mounties who walked off with a 3-2 victory - scoring all three goals in the third period - giving their fans plenty to cheer about. Rye (4-4) scored twice in the first, and led 2-0 entering the third period. Suffern improved to 7-1 with the win.

Somers/North Salem, Carmel Collide In Hockey Border Battle BREWSTER, N.Y. - It was a border war on Sunday evening at the Brewster Ice Arena as Somers/North Salem battled Carmel before a raucous crowd of supporters for each team. Somers/North Salem prevailed 7-3 to improve to 6-3. The Rams fell to 2-8. Jake Lanyi had two goals for Somers/North Salem, and Nick Smith scored twice for Carmel.

Byram Hills Gets The Best Of Bronxville In Ice Hockey BREWSTER, N.Y. - Byram Hills High and Bronxville's ice hockey teams met up in a game played Sunday night in front of an enthusiastic crowd at the Brewster Ice Arena. In the end, it was the Bobcats who came out on top, claiming a 4-2- victory. Byram Hills improved its season record to 5-4, while the Eagles fell to 0-6-1.

Mahopac Battles Rival Yorktown, Comes Away With Victory BREWSTER, N.Y. - Two old rivals met up on the ice hockey rink Sunday night, as Mahopac and Yorktown butted heads in a game played at the Brewster Ice Arena. It was Mahopac that walked off with a 4-1 victory, with the Indians improving their record to 4-3 with the win. Yorktown fell to 7-4 with the loss.

Local Ski Areas Anxiously Await Winter Conditions Ski areas throughout the region are eager for the start of more normal winter conditions, and Thunder Ridge in Patterson is no exception. A visit last week found snow guns in the "ready" position and crews on standby, but little snow on the slopes.
