Historical Society Fundraiser Gives Nod To Beacon Hat Past BEACON, N.Y. -- A fundraiser on Saturday paid homage to Beacon's hat past. The city is second only to Danbury, Conn., in its relevance as a hat making capital in the region, said Mary Colbert, vice president of the Beacon Historical Society. The society's fundraiser this past weekend featured the auctioning of 40 hats local artists created, to pay homage to the history. Stratford Emergency Crews Respond To Election Night Rollover STRATFORD, Conn. -- Stratford first responders were called to the scene of a dramatic rollover Tuesday night in front of Carl's Monuments on Stratford Avenue. Three fire crews, along with Stratford Emergency Medical Service and the Bridgeport Fire Department, attended to the accident where a red pickup truck flipped on its roof had parts torn off it.  The condition of any occupants was not available Wednesday morning, and a call to the Stratford Fire Marshall was not immediately returned.

Retired Navy Lt. Richard G. Hopkins and his daughter, Susan Hopkins, attended a presentation ceremony Nov .1 at Veterans Memorial Park in Carmel. Entergy Declares, Then Ends Notice Of Unusual Indian Point Event BUCHANAN, N.Y. --  Control room operators at Indian Point's Unit 2 nuclear power plant declared and subsequently terminated a Notice of Unusual Event on Tuesday morning, according to an announcement. The notice is the lowest of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s four emergency classification levels. It followed an electrical fault on a cable that carries electricity between both operating units at the site, the release said.
