Norwalk College Honors Nelson Mandela With Food Drive, Movie NORWALK, Conn. -- Norwalk Community College officials invite all to participate in honoring Nelson Mandela with a food drive that culminates on July 18 -- Mandela's birthday -- with a special screening of a film about his life.July 18 was declared international Nelson Mandela Day by the United Nations to honor the human rights and social justice work of South Africa's former president.  The film will be shown at 1 p.m. at the college, 188 Richards Drive, Norwalk. Stony Point Man Charged With Aggravated DWI STONY POINT, N.Y. -- A 30-year-old Stony Point man is facing driving while intoxicated charges after an accident investigation, Stony Point police said.Brett M. Maher, of Pierce Drive, Stony Point, is charged aggravated DWI following a Friday arrest, police said. Tests showed a blood alcohol content of more than 0.08 percent, police said. He was issued tickets to report back to court at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, in Stony Point, police said.

Kirkwood, of Susquehanna Street, Binghamton, was issued a ticket to appear in court at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, in Yorktown, police said. Police said they got the call about 8 p.m. Sunday about a man drinking alcohol in public. When officers arrived, they saw him with an open can of beer in a parking lot on Lee Boulevard in Yorktown, police said.

Also, he's been ordered to stay away from the other party, police said. Police made the arrest Tuesday after investigating a complaint about property damaged during an argument, police said.

Route 303 Crash In Congers Claims Life Of New City Driver CONGERS, N.Y. -- A 62-year-old New City man, who was pinned in his car after he was hit by a truck Tuesday on Route 303 in Congers, has died, according to a lohud.com report. Clarkstown police, who are still investigating the crash, announced Thursday that Bohdan Starostiak died from his injuries. The accident, which tied up traffic Tuesday afternoon, happened when Starostiak's car crossed Route 303 near Lakewood and was hit by a box truck, lohud.com says. New $70M Shelton Schools Budget Grows Tech, Support Areas SHELTON, Conn. -- Shelton Public Schools officials adopted a $70.4 million spending plan for the district Wednesday that includes more money for technology along with additional help for special needs students and those learning English, the Connecticut Post reports.The new budget also represents a first for Superintendent Chris Clouet, who took the helm in January and worked with Shelton Mayor Mark Lauretti on preparing the district's budget, according to the Connecticut Post.
