Somers Galaxy U16 Team Earns Spot In Disney Tournament
SOMERS, N. Y. -- FC Somers Galaxy U16 boys soccer team was invited to play in the highly competitive 2015 Disney Soccer Showcase at the ESPN Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida. Rated the No. 1 youth soccer tournament in the U.S., the Disney Showcase is an opportunity for Galaxy players to be seen by hundreds of college soccer coaches while testing their skills against the top teams in the country. Wilton Takes Part In Statewide Emergency Preparation Drill
WILTON, Conn. -- Local officials in Wilton are participating in a statewide emergency drill between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Wednesday to practice response to a major disaster.Wilton officials said a school emergency drill is part of the exercise, but it will not involve schools, teachers or students. GREENWICH, Conn. -- Julian Curtiss Elementary School students are marking 25 years of the school's United Nations Day with a special assembly and parade Thursday at the Greenwich school.The event is meant to showcase the diverse backgrounds of students and the world. Sixty countries will be represented in the 1 p.m. parade by the students, who will dress in their country's native clothing and carry its flag. Job Cuts May Be Imminent For GE Capital Workers In Stamford
NORWALK, Conn. -- GE Capital officials are confirming that job cuts may be necessary as General Electric works out selling off parts of its Norwalk-based financial services arm, according to the Connecticut Post.Officials would not share numbers of jobs on the line, the Post reported. FEMA Grants Northern Westchester Hospital $5.4 Million
MOUNT KISCO, N. Y. -- Officials at Northern Westchester Hospital recently got word that the facility is due for a $5.4 million grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to upgrade the hospital's electrical power system.Hospital officials say it is the largest grant they've ever received. It will go toward upgrading the Mount Kisco hospital's emergency electrical infrastructure system to a Type 1-Essential Electrical System. EAST FISHKILL, N. Y. -- The Dutchess County Department of Public Works is alerting drivers to the temporary closing overnight Thursday of Palen Road at Bridge E-9 for repair.Thursday's closure starts at 9 p.m. and ends at 5 a.m. Friday so workers can remove existing beams on one side of the bridge, county officials said. Police Search For Suspects In Headless Chickens Discovery At JFK Marina
YONKERS, NY -- Police are investigating the gruesome discovery of as many as five headless chickens at the JFK Marina in Yonkers, according to reports.Police are looking for a man and a woman, both believed to be in their 50s, who were seen in the area. The chickens were found Saturday afternoon near the boat launch, News 12 Westchester said. Ritualistic killing hasn't been ruled out by police, according to the Journal News.
