DWI Budd Lake Driver Sideswiped Car, Left Scene: Mt Olive PD A 33-year-old Budd Lake man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after he sideswiped a parked vehicle, Mount Olive police announced Tuesday, Aug. 19. At 5:12 p.m. on Saturday, Aug 16, officers responded to Stedwick Drive after a witness reported seeing a vehicle sideswipe a parked vehicle then immediately drive away, Mount Olive police said. Newark Code Enforcement Officer Indicted For Taking Bribes To Allow Businesses To Stay Open A 50-year-old Newark code enforcement officer was indicted by a grand jury on Tuesday, Aug. 19 on charges of taking bribes from businesses to allow them to stay open, authorities said. Sonia Rogers ordered the closure of a retail establishment, threatened to fine the owners, and requested bribes of cash and free store merchandise in exchange for reopening the store and not levying the threatened fines, Attorney General Matthew Platkin said. Gunman Dies By Suicide After Shooting Woman In Linden, Cops Say A woman is in critical condition and the suspect is dead following a shooting in Linden on Monday, Aug. 18, authorities said. At 10:15 a.m., officers responded to the 600 block of Carnegie Street and located a woman with a gunshot wound, Linden police said. The suspect fled from the scene and barricaded himself inside of a nearby home, police said. Broken Jaw, Lost Teeth: Northfield Boy Seriously Injured In E-Bike Crash, Campaign Says A 13-year-old Northfield boy was seriously injured after crashing his bike, according to a fundraiser set up to support his family. On Monday, Aug. 11, Cash Reggi was riding his E-bike to meet his sister at Linwood Park. While there he turned onto a bike path going too fast, causing him to crash, throwing him face first onto the pavement, Rebecca Sharra, who organized the fundraiser said. Man Killed After Struck By Train In Cranford: NJ Transit A man was fatally struck by a train in Cranford Tuesday morning, Aug. 19, authorities said. At 1:44 a.m., Raritan Valley Line train 5403, which departed Newark Penn Station at 1:28 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Raritan at 2:34 a.m., struck and fatally injured the man east Cranford Station, NJ Transit said. There were no injuries to the approximately 25 customers and crew on board, NJ Transit said. Customers were evacuated and put on a bus, NJ Transit said. The incident remains under investigation, NJ Transit said.

Man Dies After Being Pulled From Pool: Colts Neck PD A 77-year-old man died after he was pulled from a swimming pool on Saturday, April 16, authorities said. At 12:30 p.m., officers and EMS responded to a residence in Colts Neck and found an unconscious man in a swimming pool, Colts Neck police said. Emergency personnel promptly initiated life-saving measures, and the man, who was not identified by police was transported to Bayshore Medical Center for further medical treatment, police said. He was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said. The incident remains under investigation, police said.

Death Of South Carolina Woman Under Investigation: Middlesex County Prosecutor A 64-year-old South Carolina woman died after being found unresponsive in Sayreville on Monday, Aug. 18, authorities said. At 9:37 a.m., officers responded to a report of an unresponsive woman at at a residence in Skytop Gardens and found Shirley Thompson, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Sayreville Police Chief Daniel Plumacker said. Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities did not say if foul play was suspected. Man Airlifted After Falling From Viaduct In Knowlton Twp: Njsp A man had to be airlifted to a hospital after falling from a viaduct in Warren County on Sunday, Aug. 17, authorities said. Troopers responded to the Knowlton Viaduct at 2:09 p.m. after the man fell and sustained moderate injuries, Charles Marchan, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police said. He was airlifted to an area hospital, Marchan said. The incident remains under investigation, Marchan said.

Philly Men Had Stolen Gun, Hollow-Point Bullets: North Wildwood PD A 35-year-old Philadelphia man was arrested and charged with possessing a firearm in North Wildwood, authorities announced Monday, Aug. 18. On Saturday, Aug. 14, officers received information a group of people were in possession of a gun near 23rd Avenue and the boardwalk, North Wildwood police said.
