Pearl River Woman Charged With Driving While Intoxicated PEARL RIVER, N.Y. -- The Orangetown Police Department arrested Pearl River resident Patricia Scully on a charge of driving while intoxicated Thursday morning. Scully, 49, was involved in a car accident on Main Street in Pearl River. Responding officers conducted an investigation at the scene, during which Scully failed numerous field sobriety tests, police said. Scully was then arrested and taken to police headquarters where she failed, a breath test, according to police. Irvington Middle School Students Visit Jacob Burns To Become Movie Makers IRVINGTON, N.Y. -- Irvington Middle School students who are studying the art of making movies in their English language arts classes recently had the opportunity to learn from professionals. The sixth-graders went on a field trip to the Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville on Nov. 18 and 19 to collaborate with staff members at the center. The visit was made possible through a generous grant from the Irvington Education Foundation, which also funded the new iPads that the students have been using to make and edit their movies. Briarcliff High's Jillian Agona Wins First Place At Speech Competition BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. -- Briarcliff High School’s debate team sharpened its public speaking skills at a speech competition held at Suffern High School on Dec. 10.Jillian Agona won the first-place award for her dramatic monologue. “A total of seven schools competed, all from Rockland County,” said adviser Samantha Fishman. “The day’s competition was broken down into five categories – prose, poetry, impromptu, dramatic monologue and original oration.”

Concordia College Nursing Innovator Wins National Award BRONXVILLE, N.Y. -- Lucia Alfano, a member of the faculty in the nursing program at Concordia College in Bronxville, has been named as a Culture of Health: Breakthrough Leaders in Nursing Award winner. Corporate Grants Help Stamford Kids Get Free Books In Imagination Library DANBURY, Conn. -- The Imagination Library program in the greater Danbury region has been awarded $41,600 in combined grants from a number of corporate partners, the United Way of Western Connecticut announced. The United Way partners with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to provide an age-appropriate children’s book every month to each child enrolled in the program at no cost to their families.
