Cops ID Man Killed In Jersey City Fire That Left Children 8, 6 Critical
A man killed in a Jersey City apartment fire has been identified, and three children and a woman remain in critical condition, authorities said in an updated press release Thursday, May 1.
Lahcen Elmguielle, 59, of Jersey City, was pronounced dead at Jersey City Medical Center following a fire at 296 Summit Ave. on Thursday, May 1, according to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez.
The Jersey City Fire Department was called to the three-story building shortly after 3 a.m., Suarez said. First responders arrived to find heavy smoke pouring from the structure.

A 22-year-old man tried to cover for his father after police say the dad, who was unlicensed, hit a 17-year-old boy riding an e-bike and fled the scene this week in Ocean County.
The crash happened on Wednesday, April 30, around Mizzen Avenue and Locker Street in Beachwood, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.
A 17-year-old boy was riding an electric bicycle north on Locker Street when he was struck by Michael P. Gable, 56, of Berkeley Township, heading east on Mizzen Avenue, the prosecutor said. Gable did not stop.

Final Ride Will Honor Cranford Motorcyclist Killed In Crash
Family, friends, and strangers across North Jersey are rallying around the loved ones of Michael Mendonca-Lopez, the 23-year-old motorcyclist killed in a Passaic County crash over the weekend.
A wake will be held for Lopez on Wednesday, April 30, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at August F. Schmidt Memorial Funeral Home in Elizabeth, according to his obituary. His memorial service will begin the following morning, Thursday, May 1 at 9 a.m., at the same location.
Michael will then take his final ride to Rosedale Cemetery in Linden, escorted by fellow bikers with PISC Motards Motorcycle Club.
