$1M Lottery Win: Central Mass Mom Planning Surprise Trip With Her Kids A Worcester County mom had one thing to say after winning $1 million in the Massachusetts State Lottery: "I'm going to Disney World!" Lisa Smith, of Northbridge, won the seven-figure sum playing the “$2,000,000 50X Cashword” $10 scratch-off game.  She chose to take the lump-sum payment of $650,000 (before taxes) rather than the annuity. She plans to buy herself a new car and take her two children to Disney World with the cash.  Smith bought the ticket at Cumberland Farms, 2222 Providence Road in Northbridge. The store will get a $10,000 bonus for the sale.

Mass Teen Gets Big Break On 'American Idol,' But Not The One She Wanted A 16-year-old singer from Lexington, Massachusetts, made a smashing debut on "American Idol" on Sunday, Feb. 25, but for a talent outside of singing.  Shriya Jha appeared on the episode with several other Hollywood hopefuls, but her audition was much more violent than other previous tryouts. Disabled Woman ID'd As Person Killed In Sudbury Fire; 2 Others Taken To Hospital Middlesex County authorities have identified the 74-year-old woman who was killed in a Wednesday, Feb. 21, fire in Sudbury. The blaze sent two others, including two men who tried to save her, to the hospital.  Hema Shahani was killed in the early morning blaze on Goodman's Hill Road that began around 5 a.m., the Middlesex District Attorney said.  Firefighters found heavy smoke pouring from the rear of the home when they arrived. Three people were able to escape the blaze.  Shahani was unable to get outside because of her disability, her son, Jeet Shanani told NBC Boston.
