J. -- Legal costs associated with teacher grievances and other issues pushed up legal expenses for Carlstadt/East Rutherford Regional School District beyond the state average for the third year in a row, NorthJersey.com is reporting.Becton High School, the district's only school, had legal costs at $200 per student for 2014-15 -- 130 percent higher than the state average, , NorthJersey.com reported. Martin Luther King Jr. with a special chapel service. The purpose of the gathering was to provide a time to reflect on his life by reading poems, news articles and other writings, as well as play music and sing, school officials said. School officials thanked all who organized the tribute. The civil rights leader and Baptist minister, who was born Jan. 15, is honored with a federal holiday.

Bridgeport Police Investigate Woman's Shooting Injury BRIDGEPORT, CONN. -- Bridgeport police are investigating an apparent shooting Thursday night near Main Street and North Avenue that left a 20-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to her shin, the Connecticut Post reports.Police said a witness reported seeing a man in a gray hooded sweatshirt fire a handgun in the area around the same time the woman reported being shot. Lower Hudson Valley Towns Still Grapple With 'Zombie' Homes A recently released report shows that despite efforts by local towns to keep so-called "zombie" homes maintained, it is still difficult to prevent the negative impact to surrounding properties in the Lower Hudson Valley, Lohud.com reports.The report, issued by State Sen.
