Author Nadia Hashimi Discusses New Novel At New Canaan Library
NEW CANAAN, CONN. -- International author Nadia Hashimi, who grew up in the New York area, plans to speak about her newest novel, "A House Without Windows," at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the New Canaan Public Library.Best-selling author of "The Pearl That Broke Its Shell," Hashimi is an Afghanistan-born pediatrician whose books focus on strong female characters. In her newest novel, the story revolves around Zeba, an Afgan housewife imprisoned after her husband is found murdered.

Sheriff: Motorist On Route 6N In Mahopac Had Cocaine, Ecstasy, Loaded Gun
MAHOPAC, N. Y. -- A 37-year-old man is facing drug and weapons charges after Putnam County Sheriff's officers say they found a loaded gun along with cocaine and ecstasy during a traffic stop along Route 6N in Mahopac.
Julio A. Garcia, of Coral Reef Way in Queen, is being held on $50,000 bail at Putnam County Correctional Facility, the sheriff's office said. Hackensack Hispanic Fiesta Serves Up Food, Flamenco Dancing
HACKENSACK, N. J. -- Flamenco dancer Anna de la Paz highlights the Hispanic Heritage Fiesta on Saturday at Hackensack's Johnson Public Library.The event, which runs from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the library, 274 Main St., also features tastings of authentic food such as tacos, popusas, empanadas, arepas con queso and more. Flamenco dancing is a classical Spanish dance, and the event features music from the Americas.

Croton Firm Wins Design Award For Work With Ossining Company
CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- Design firm Hudson Valley Graphic Design, based in Croton-on-Hudson, was recently recognized with a 2016 American Graphic Design Award from Graphic Design USA for its work on a logo for WillYum Spice Co. in Ossining. Hudson Valley Graphic Design was one of almost 10,000 entries submitted for this annual award and was selected by a professional panel of judges. The top 15 percent are chosen, officials said.
The competition is open to design firms, ad agencies, corporations, nonprofits, freelancers, students and more.
