Darius Cokely, age 23, of Albany, was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison in Albany County Court on Wednesday, Feb. 1. It followed his jury conviction for second-degree murder in the killing of Maurice Skeen. Prosecutors said Cokely and Skeen got into a fight on March 18, 2020 near Madison and New Scotland avenues in Albany, south of Washington Park. The third-prize winning Power Play ticket for the Wednesday, Feb. 1, drawing was purchased in Valley Stream, at the BP station on Rockaway Avenue. It has four matching numbers plus the Powerball. The winning numbers for Wednesday’s drawing are: 31-43-58-59-66 and the Powerball is 9. The Power Play multiplier is 2, meaning the third-place prize was doubled. Powerball drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 11 p.m.

Emergency crews in New Cassel were called at around 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, with reports of a disturbance at Westbury Deli, located on Prospect Avenue, according to Nassau County Police.
