Brewster Fire Department Trains To Gain Access To Water Under Ice BREWSTER, N.Y. -- The Brewster Fire Department recently trained on a procedure to get access to water when lakes and ponds are frozen. Having a fire hydrant in the neighborhood is a luxury that most people take for granted. But in many areas of northern Westchester and Putnam, there are no hydrants.  When a fire breaks out, firefighters have the added chore of finding a water source, usually a pond, lake or even a nearby swimming pool.  The source engine has to get as close as possible to the water where a large diameter suction hose pulls the water out of the pond and relays it to the fire…

To request a report, the department will need to know who, what, where and when (no judgement on the why).  Please include a report number if one is available. Yonkers Fire Lt. Anthony Mangone Dies At 48 YONKERS, N.Y. -- Fire Lt. Anthony Mangone, a veteran firefighter in the Yonkers Fire Department, died this week after serving more than two decades in the department. He was 48, according to a story on lohud.com.Mangone joined the Yonkers Fire Department in November 1994 and spent his career working at Ladder Co. 71 in southwest Yonkers, according to lohud.com. He was promoted to lieutenant in 2012 and most recently was assigned to special operations in the department.
