Irvington HS Student Sydney Cuff Creates Tree Trail At Nature Preserve
IRVINGTON, N.Y. -- Irvington High School freshman Sydney Cuff created a tree trail at the O’Hara Nature Center when she attached small signs to about two dozen trees in the 40- acre nature preserve. The trail starts at the nature center, follows the North South Trail and circles back to the nature center. The 14-year-old student, who finished her volunteer project in August, consulted local arborists earlier this year to help identify the trees. She also raised $800, of which she used about $300 for the signs that include the trees’ common names, Latin names and facts about each species. …

Cats Recused From Deadly Mount Kisco Fire Up For Adoption
MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. -- Sixteen cats who were saved from a fatal house fire in Mount Kisco are available for adoption at the SPCA of Westchester and ready to get their second chance at a new beginning.On Aug. 12, the fire took the life of 86-year-old Chrystine Nicholas, who is believed to have gone back into the house to rescue the animals. The cats are between the ages of 6 and 10, and most suffer from upper respiratory infections and various ailments. All have been medically treated and rehabilitated, as well as spayed/neutered and vaccinated. The cats range from social and friendly to timid…

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. -- The Mount Kisco Volunteer Fire Department is hosting an Open House and Fire Truck Rides at the Green Street Firehouse on Sunday, Oct. 18 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.Children and adults can experience a ride on a fire truck, view equipment and share other activities with the fire department. The department would also like to remind the community that they're a volunteer organization and rely greatly on donations. Tax-deductible donations to the Fire Department should be mailed to P.O. Box 51, Mount Kisco.

Singer-Songwriter Suzanne Vega Performs Benefit Concert In Bridgeport
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Singer-songwriter Suzanne Vega performed a live concert at the Bijou Theatre in Bridgeport.The concert Sept. 25 was to benefit Bridge House, a clubhouse where adults with mental illnesses can bolster their self-esteem, sharpen their skills and work toward achieving fulfilling lives. For nearly 30 years, the Fairfield County nonprofit has helped more than 2,000 adults with persistent mental illness rebuild their lives through employment, housing, education and social programs. FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- New timetables are coming to Metro-North's New Haven Line on Sunday, Oct. 4, to create a better morning rush-hour connection to Greenwich for Shore Line East customers.
