Virginia Road Elementary Implements New Character Education Initiative VALHALLA, N.Y. -- Virginia Road Elementary School in Valhalla implemented a new character education initiative for the 2015-16 academic year to encourage students to be friendly and respectful toward one another. The program, titled “Bucket Filling,” is based on the self-help book “Have You Filled A Bucket Today: A Guide to Daily Happiness for Kids” by Carol McCloud. The premise is to reinforce socially appropriate behavior in school, which also translates to the children’s lives outside of school. Bruce Museum Heads Outside For 34th Annual Outdoor Festival In Greenwich GREENWICH, Conn. -- The Bruce Museum’s 34th annual Outdoor Arts Festival takes place rain or shine on Museum grounds in Greenwich on Columbus Day weekend.The hours are Saturday, Oct. 10, and Sunday, Oct. 11, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. More than 90 artists from across the country, many new to the Bruce Museum festival, will be showcased this year. Hastings Students Named Commended Students In 2016 Scholarship Program HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- Eight Hastings High School students have been named Commended Students in the 2016 National Merit Scholarship Program. Westlake High Senior Named All-State Clarinetist MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. -- Westlake High School senior Rebecca Poole was named to the 2015 New York State School Music Association All-State Symphonic Band. An accomplished clarinetist, Poole is among the approximately 900 highly talented high school music and choral students who earned the “master proficiency” distinction based on their scores at the association's festival last spring.More than 6,500 sophomores and junior prepared solos for the festival and only the top 2,400 with scores of 98-100 were considered.
