Take The Rockland Polar Plunge For A Good Cause STONY POINT, N.Y. -- Come take the plunge Saturday at Lake Welch Beach in Stony Point to help raise money for the Special Olympics. "Freezin' for a Reason," the Rockland Polar Plunge, will raise money for the 3,500 athletes in the Hudson Valley region who participate in the Special Olympics, reports Lohud.com. Registration begins at 10 a.m., and the event starts at noon. Rockland Hazmat Team Comes To Rescue After Truck Accident In Stony Point STONY POINT, N.Y. -- Rockland County's hazmat team prevented Wednesday's truck rollover accident on Route 9W in Stony Point from becoming a major disaster for other drivers. Dan Greeley, director of Rockland's Office of Fire and Emergency Services Assistant Director, worked alongside Stony Point Fire Chief Kevin Huslinger to ensure a safe and efficient transfer of the remaining diesel fuel and hydraulic fluid from the overturned tractor-trailer carrying logs. Mount Vernon Charter School Hiking Club Climbs Anthony’s Nose MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- Led by Assistant Director of Operations Bruce Tanner, Amani Charter School Hiking Club completed its second hike on Saturday by making the climb up Anthony’s Nose. The mountain is in Putnam County on the eastern side of the Bear Mountain Bridge, about 45 minutes north of the school’s location in Mount Vernon.  The 11 students, two chaperones and Tanner made the 2.5 mile round-trip hike in three hours with a brief lunch at the summit of Anthony’s Nose.
