Troopers were called at around 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, with reports of a one-car crash on the Meadowbrook State Parkway in Hempstead, south of exit M6, according to State Police. Greene County resident Michael Oquendo, of Castkill, was arrested Friday, March 10, for second-degree rape and other charges following a traffic stop in Albany County, according to Cohoes Police. Investigators said the department was contacted at around 8:30 p.m. by family members reporting their 13-year-old daughter missing. In Hempstead, crews will close the ramp from northbound Wantagh State Parkway to westbound Southern State Parkway overnight Thursday, March 16, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday, March 17, the Department of Transportation said. Guilty: Hudson Valley Man Convicted Of Raping Child A man from the region is facing decades behind bars after being convicted of raping a child. Orange County resident Cecilio Navarro, age 35, of Middletown, was found guilty of multiple sex crimes by a jury on Tuesday, March 14. Prosecutors had argued that Navarro sexually abused a child beginning in December 2016, when the victim was under the age of 13. The abuse continued on and off through 2021.  Navarro was arrested by the Orange County Child Investigation Unit in June 2022, and the trial began on Tuesday, March 7.
