Leonard B. Sand, Segregation Case Judge, Lived In Pound Ridge, 88
YONKERS, N.Y. -- Leonard B. Sand, 88, of Sleepy Hollow, best known as the federal judge who presided over the landmark case in which he found Yonkers officials had intentionally segregated public housing and schools, died on Saturday, Dec. 3, according to the New York Times.
Sand, who also lived in Pound Ridge for many years, was best known for his work on the Yonkers case in which he ordered the city to come up with a plan that would offer low and moderate-income housing in mostly white neighborhoods. Dover Man Faces Drug Charges After Traffic Stop
DOVER, N.Y. -- Drugs and a weapon were found on a Dover man who was stopped by police for running a stop sign, New York State Police said.
Gene Tuck, 37, was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana, various traffic violations, and possession of a weapon, when he was stopped on State Road 55 in Dover for failing to stop at a stop sign, state police said.
During the stop, troopers discovered the drugs and weapon.
Tuck was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
Lake Mahopac Hero Teen To Receive Liberty Medal, State's Highest Honor
MAHOPAC, N.Y. -- The heroic teen from Lake Mahopac who jumped into cold waters to save two girls from drowning following a car accident, will be honored by State Sen. Terrence Murphy with the New York State Liberty Medal.
Cullen Malzo, 19, will receive the award during the Wednesday, Dec. 7, meeting of the Carmel Town Board at 60 McAlpin Ave., in Mahopac at 7 p.m.

STONY POINT, N.Y. -- The Stony Point Police Department recently made five arrest, including four people wanted on warrants.
Those arrested include the following:
Daniel Monahan, 19, of 3 Ironwood Court, was arrested on Tuesday on criminal possession of a controlled substance . He was wanted on a bench warrant for failing to show up in court. He is being held at the Rockland County Jail on $1,500 bail.

Vandals Break Stained Glass Window At Scarsdale Church
SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- The custodian at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Scarsdale arrived at work on Monday, Nov. 28, to find a stained glass window in the basement had been broken, according to the Scarsdale Police Department.
The custodian, Jesus Martinez, told police that when he arrived for work around 6:30 a.m, he began his daily routine of unlocking the school when he noticed the broken basement window, police said.
