MILFORD, Mass. – Registered Democrats in Milford will hold a caucus Feb. 16 to elect delegates to the Massachusetts Democratic Party’s 2013 convention.
The caucus is open to Milford voters who were registered Democrats as of Dec. 31. It will be held at 10 a.m. at the Rise and Shine Academy, 375 Fortune Blvd., Milford. The time and location could change, so The Daily Voice will let you know if that happens.
A total of 14 delegates — seven women and seven men — and three alternate delegates will be elected to attend the 2013 Massachusetts Democratic Convention in Lowell on June 1.
“Delegates at our 2013 convention will hear from exciting future leaders of the Massachusetts Democratic Party and will debate and adopt our platform for the next four years,” Massachusetts Democratic Party Chairman John Walsh said.
John Tehan, a resident of Milford and outreach director for the Greater Blackstone Valley Democrats, said 40 to 50 people usually attend the Milford caucus.
“To be put on the caucus ballot, you have to first be nominated within the caucus,” Tehan said. “The nominees will then introduce themselves and state their case for why they should be delegates.”
Only registered Democrats as of Dec. 31 and Milford residents are allowed to attend, he said. The individual’s party affiliation will be checked at the door.
