MILFORD, Mass. – Milford and state police officers searched for two alleged shoplifters in the woods behind the Hannaford grocery store on Tuesday after the suspects left two carts of items in the parking lot before fleeing, according to the Milford Police Department.

Milford Deputy Chief James Heron said the store’s loss prevention department called police, saying they confronted a man and woman who were attempting to leave with two full shopping carts without paying.

The man and woman then left the carts in the parking lot at 7 Medway Road and fled into the woods, he said.

A state police K-9 unit was nearby and assisted Milford police in tracking footprints in the snow through a wooded area behind the supermarket, but they could not locate any individuals, Heron said.
