WORCESTER, Mass. – A Milford man was charged with armed robbery of the Commerce Bank of Worcester after evading police Tuesday, Worcester Police said.
Anthony Egea, 58, of 25 Whitney St., Milford, was charged with two counts of failure to stop for police and one count of armed robbery while masked, police said.
Police responded to Commerce Bank at 560 Park Avenue at 12:42 p.m. after a man wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, a mask and carrying a blue gym bag entered the bank, brandished a handgun and demanded money from a teller.
The man walked out of the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash and was seen entering a dark-colored Toyota pick-up truck, police said.
After the truck's description was broadcast, a responding police officer spotted the truck on Park Avenue. The driver of the truck refused to stop until several police cruisers closed in, police said.
When the driver, Egea, was removed from the truck, an officer spotted a blue gym bag containing money, a blue hooded sweatshirt and a black handgun. The gun was later determined to be a pellet gun that resembled an authentic gun, police said.
Egea is being held on $25,040 cash bail and will be arraigned at the Worcester County District Courthouse on Wednesday.
