MILFORD, Mass. – A local family will be honored for “always looking to help and never searching for any of the credit” at the Milford Chamber’s St. Patrick’s event in March.

WMRC-First Class Radio recently announced Peter Ellis and the entire Ellis family have been selected as recipients of the 2013 Butch Moore “You Touched Upon My Life” Award.

“If there is one family in the region that personifies the Butch Moore spirit, it’s Peter Ellis and the Ellis family as a whole,” said WMRC President Tom McAuliffe. “They’re always looking to help and never searching for any of the credit.

“They’ve changed more lives in this area than we will ever know,” McAuliffe added. “I’m so proud to give this honor to Peter and the Ellis family. Butchy Moore would be very proud.”

Peter has given years and years of service to the Salvation Army in town, according to McAulifee.

“Steve [Peter’s son] has been remarkable as chairman of the Milford Regional Medical Center Golf Tournament many times over,” McAuliffe said. “As a family, they simply support any local cause that asks them to.”

Moore was a local singer that toured throughout Ireland, Europe and the United States initially with The Capitol Showband and later with his wife, Maeve, as the singing duo “Butch and Maeve.”

Moore’s signature song “You Touched Upon My Life” was “about a man that had touched the lives of so many around him with his music, his smile, his generosity and his big heart.”

With Moore passing away in 2001, WMRC-First Class Radio created an award in his honor. Past recipients include Kevin Meehan and Billy Hood, Linda Varney, Judge Francis and Virginia Larkin, state Sen. Richard Moore, Dr. Michael Fitzpatrick, Tony and Virginia Brenna, Chris Morcone, Gina Oliva-Tarolli, Tom McGovern, Paul Surapine and the Kimball Family.

The official award presentation for the Ellis family will take place at 5 p.m. March 13 at the WMRC/Milford Area Chamber of Commerce St. Patrick’s Business After Hours. The event will be at Mickey Cassidy’s Restaurant and Public House, 116 Main St., Medway.
