MILFORD, Mass. – Milford residents who give a pint of blood Friday at Gold's Gym can get a pound of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee to help ward off the bone-chilling freeze.
The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 2 to 7 p.m. Jan. 25 at Gold’s in the Stop & Shop plaza, 196 E. Main St. Every donor receives a coupon for a free pound of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee.
“We are very appreciative of Dunkin’ Donuts for its ongoing dedication to our lifesaving mission through the ‘Give a Pint, Get a Pound’ campaign, which helps the Red Cross increase blood collections so that we can meet the daily needs of patients in area hospitals during the winter months,” said Donna Morrissey, director of communications for the American Red Cross Blood Services – Northeast Division.
January has been designated National Blood Donor Month to encourage Americans to give or pledge to give blood, and Dunkin’ Donuts says it’s “proud to support National Blood Donor Month.” The vouchers are nontransferable and not redeemable for cash.
One blood donation can help save up to three lives, according to the Red Cross website. Donated blood is used to help accident victims, trauma patients, transplant recipients and those receiving treatment for life-threatening illnesses.
Blood donors must be at least 17, weigh 110 pounds, be in good health on the day of the donation and have no history of exposure to hepatitis or HIV/AIDS. There are other health requirements.
Also, an individual’s last donation must have been more than eight weeks, or 56 days, ago, and donors must have valid identification, such as a driver’s license, blood donor card or passport.
Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are welcome.
To make an appointment, visit the Red Cross website or call 1-800-733-2767.
